How to Enroll in the Online NAIS Minor
If you are interested, fill out and submit the Online NAIS Minor Declaration form. Please note, although, technically, you cannot declare a minor until graduation, we can help you to track your progress and provide advising, as needed.
Choose your courses from the course catalog and enroll in virtual courses via UC Davis or UC Online.
Once it is confirmed that your course requirements are completed, you will receive a follow up email from the NAIS program coordinator to complete the process of petitioning for a minor.
Online Minor Requirements (*Updated Fall 2025):
One lower division course in Native American Studies………4 (one class)
Choose one: NAS 002v, NAS 005v
Five upper division courses in Native American Studies.....20 (five classes)
Choose five:
UC Davis Courses: NAS 123v, NAS 175v, NAS 181v
UC Online courses: INTST 146W, ETHN163F, SOC 139 NG, CH ST 116, ENGL 165IB
At least two UC Davis courses are required to fulfill the online minor requirements. With approval of the minor advisor, the remainder of the minor requirements can be fulfilled via NAS/ AIS/ IS /NAIS courses offered via UC Online from any campus in the UC system. By petition, the undergraduate advisor can approve up to two other relevant upper division courses of interest from other departments, particularly one comparable upper division course from recommended departments: African American and African Studies (AAS), Anthropology (ANT), American Studies (AMS), Asian American Studies (ASA), Chicana/o Studies (CHI), Gender, Sexuality and Women's Studies (GSW or WMS), History (HIS), Linguistics (LIN), Middle East and South Asian Studies (MSA), or another 4-unit lower division course selected in consultation with an advisor.
Completing the Online NAIS Minor.
- Confirm you have completed all requirements
- Fill out and submit the Online Minor Petition form
- Respond to the follow up email from the NAS Student Affairs Officer to complete the process of petitioning for a minor
