Bio

Stephanie Lumsden is a member of the Hoopa Valley Tribe and an Assistant Professor of Native American studies at UC Davis. Prior to joining the faculty at UC Davis, Stephanie was a UC President's Postdoctoral fellow in the History department at UC Santa Cruz.

Dr. Lumsden's research examines the relationship between Indigenous dispossession and the development of the carceral settler state in northwestern California. Her current project examines Chinese migrants in northern California and their intimacies with California Indian peoples during and after the end of the so-called "Indian wars." 

Dr. Lumsden's work has been published by the American Indian Culture and Research Journal, Lateral, and News from Native California and her research has been supported by the Hoopa Valley Tribe, the Ford Foundation, and the UC President’s Office. She is currently serving on the California Indian Studies and Scholars Association (CISSA) Council of Leadership.
